...A MEMOIR by Ashley Innis and Teresa Christiansen

    Opening Friday, August 14, 6-9pm;

    …A Memoir is an exhibition of work by artists Teresa Christiansen and Ashley Innis, whose creative paths have crossed many contexts from the classroom to the office space to their studios. Their creative practices share an investigation of the landscape through the use of unexpected photographic processes to yield images that ask the viewer to take their time and question the making of each.

    Innis exercises a practice where her images capture a sweeping view of the landscape around her focusing on color and form while skipping over most small details, resulting in an almost overstimulating expression. Christiansen works with close-up photographs: fragments of cacti, rocks, flowers and leaves. Cutting these prints and weaving them with colored papers and collected clippings, she creates detailed studies of texture and light. Through this exhibition Innis’ broad views of soft landscapes contrast with Christiansen’s sharp crops, both artists showing their hand through the sculptural elements of the pieces they create.

    This is a show grown out of friendship, collaboration, critique, and some very silly text messages that often are replied to with “...A Memoir.”

    ...A Memoir is funded in part by the Regional Arts & Culture Council and the Office of Arts & Culture.
