CACOPHONY is about the daily noise which surrounds us. Some noice is trivial, some is funny, some is deadly serious, some is important, and some we wish we could ignore. If we sit with the noise, let the messages filter through the chaos, we may find things we need to hear even if they are uncomfortable or even painful.

Artist Bio:
Erika Rier is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist creating mostly ceramics and art zines  in a style she calls folk surrealism. Writing was her first love and she still secretly writes  stories. Having lived in Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, NYC, Arizona, and Washington  state; Erika now resides in Portland, OR. She also has one of each of the following: a  husband, a daughter, and a cat she found in a hallway.

Artist Statement: “My work is particularly focused on telling feminine stories, as well as changing our  expectations of the way feminine people are depicted as subjects within art. I think the  feminine is often not seen as universal and because of this feminine art is rarely  centered in the art world today, while masculine perspectives are focused on and  emulated. I'm hoping to show viewers that feminine stories can speak to everyone in  meaningful ways. I think it is important for viewers to see complex feminine stories  portrayed. I’m particularly interested in creating art which depicts feminine people  engaged actively in their world rather than as passive subjects shaped by the male  gaze”
